Title StatementMultiplication of abaca (Musa textilis Nee) ev. 'Inosa' as affected by 'K plus' application and explant maturity Judy Q. Antona
Physical Descriptionxiii, 80 leaves figures, tables
Summary, Etc.Abaca is cultivated for its fibers which is one of the country’s major export products. Rapid propagation in is needed to meet the increasing demand for planting materials. This study was conducted to evaluate the multiplication of abaca cv. ‘Inosa’ from 2 types of explants subcultured every 3 and 4 weeks after inoculation. Shoot tips from in vitro-deprived abaca cultures at S1 and S2 served as explants in the experiment conducted. It was laid out in a 2x2 factorial in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The cultures were subcultured for shoot multiplication every 3 and 4 weeks. S2 in vitro-derived abaca explants subcultured at 4 and 3 weeks from inoculation produced shoots at 10.87 and 11.14 days of incubation respectively. The same trend was observed in cultures using S1 shoot tip explants. Shoot length on the other hand was not affected by source of explants but it was significantly affected by the age of cultures. Cultures subcultured at 4-week interval produced longer shoots at an average of 58.27 mm while those at 3-week had only 38.40 mm shoot length. The results indicated that cultures subcultured at 4-week interval produced shoots that are more vigorous in terms of growth and development whereas those from 3-week interval had smaller shoots. Shoot proliferation was not significantly affected by subculture interval. Root growth and development were also earlier in cultures subcultured every 4 weeks compared to those 3-week interval.04 Pl
